Register the perfect domain name

A domain name is your website name, its the address that your customers type in to their internet browser to access your website.

Your domain name can be any combination of letters and numbers, as long as it is unique, as no two domain names can be the same.
Once you have your domain name chosen, it ends with a extension such as .co.uk, .org .com or .net.
It is the extension of the domain name that determines the price and how long the domain can be registered for, some can be registered up to 10 years!

All domain names need to registered before you can use it, which is where Creative Digital come in as the domain registrar, we register the domain name on your behalf.

Depending on the domain extension, such as .uk or .com, the process to move the domain can differ so its best to check with us or your current registrar first before starting the process.

Unlike other providers,  we don’t mind if you have a domain with us and other services like websites or email elsewhere, you’ll still be able to manage your domain names via our portal whenever you need – and may find renewals or additional features and services may be cheaper than what your currently paying.

Domain names a key to having a business online. They allow websites to be shown when you browse to the address and emails to be created to enhance your brand.

Domain names are registered by a registrar such as Creative Digital on an annual basic (extended periods are available up to 10 years depending on the domain). Once registered, you have control over the domain.

Renewals are to keep the domain active.

If not renewed the domain will lapse, go in to redemption period where its “on hold”, shortly after it will expire and be available to general public to register again.

Letting a domain expire or lapse can put your business identity as risk, as a random company or a competitor could register the domain, taking what business you once received for themselves.

Domain registrations are in two parts, the Registrar and Registrant.

All domains need a registrar, which is the company who you have used to register the domain through on your behalf, which makes you the registrant.

Registrant means that your business details and contact information are provided as ownership of the domain.
Registrant details are validated each year to ensure they are up to date and relevant.

If you have a non .UK domain, such as a .COM or .NET domain, once the domain reaches the expiry date, it will go in to a 30 day redemption period.

During this period, any renewals will have an additional £30+VAT redemption fee.

If the domain passes the 30 day redemption period, it goes in to holding state which needs to be recovered. Domain recovery will have an additional £110+VAT fee + renewal cost.

Absolutely. Domains can be provided by different registrars and from time to time, you may need to move your domain to a different provider.

Depending on the domain extension, the process can be differ. .UK domains are released to the new registrars IPS Tag, for other domains like .COM or .NET, the domains are unlocked and a transfer code is provided that you can pass to the registrar for them to initiate the transfer.
